Winter Sowing in Sub-Zero Winters

What about sub zero winters? When do you start to plant? We live in north central Iowa.

Editor's reply:

It's important to distinguish between sowing and planting.

You can place the "mini greenhouses" out around Christmas time. They will be protected during your sub-zero winter conditions by the plastic bottle, or whatever else you use.

You won't be able to plant the seedlings in your soil until after the end of the frost. Once the ground is no longer frozen, and the frost risk is minimized, you will be able to plant your seedlings in the garden.
