Winter Sowing in CO

I live near the foothills of Colorado and we have varying weather patterns where is might snow one week and be 50-70 degrees the next. And then go back to being really cold.

Will winter sowing work in such variable temperatures? I am worried that the seeds would sprout too early? Also when is the latest that you can start ws?

Editor's reply: Simply give it a go. What's the worst that can happen? You lose a few seeds.

I can't personally advise you for every area or zone, but if the seedlings survive, you will be well-placed come springtime. Good luck and feed back when you see the outcome.
