What To Compost

Or Rather What NOT To CompostWhen I spent my first summer in my first house, I decided to plant a row of flowers along the sidewalk in the front. As there was no bed there, I dug out the grass, put in some edging and added topsoil.
I decided not to use paper or mulch-- I envisioned the bed overflowing with
flowers. As a final flourish, I topped things off with some of the compost I had collected in my bin.
In about a month, my bed was overflowing-- WITH VEGETABLES! The compost apparently wasn't old enough, and I ended up with several tomato plants, a few onions, and a pumpkin growing in my new flower bed!
