Question:
My tomato container plant is growing very tall, but I worry that all of the nutrients are going towards the height rather than to the lower hanging fruit.
Answer:
That's a great question, Anne.
It would be alright to do what you're asking. But at this point in the season, I would probably just prune out all of the suckers and some small stems that are maybe only 4-5 inches long.
As far as stems that are making up the height of the plant, I would leave those as is.
Lastly, make sure you are fertilizing if the soil isn't getting anything. That will help as well. Next time around, I would try to do more of the major pruning early in the season.
