Papyrus turns a container combination into a spectacular display.

This combination for sun and warm weather requires a large container to accommodate papyrus’ growth.

Papyrus loves wet soil. In a combination such as this one, with other plants which don't require quite so much moisture, you could plant the papyrus in its own pot, plugging the drainage holes and sink that pot into the large terracotta container.

Then fill the rest of the container with potting mix and under plant with your choice of sun loving annuals.

Yellow variegated lantana will trail down the side of the container as it grows. A cultivar such as lantana camara 'Samantha' will bloom non-stop during summer. It is drought tolerant and attracts butterflies.

French Marigold is also a great choice to provide nectar for butterflies. It’s one of the easiest annuals to grow. It does require deadheading to keep it blooming until fall. You can save seed from your marigold by allowing a few flowers to go seed towards the end of the growing season.

Providing contrast to the yellow and orange combination, purple Joseph's Coat (Alternanthera). It is grown for its beautiful colored leaves, ranging from red to bronze to purple.

It prefers full sun and moist but well-drained soil, can grow up to 36 inches, and it will benefit from pinching the tips occasionally to keep it bushy and full.
