A postcard-perfect combination!

The Swiss chalet idea of window boxes filled with geranium and, in this case, a wooden wagon bed loaded with containers full of sun-loving annuals, perennials and even tropical plants.

This could be a gardener's dream.

The complimentary color scheme of red and green is simple and very effective, punctuated with touches of hot pink.

Geranium, whether zonal, ivy or regal ("Martha Washington" type) works well to fill window boxes. Geraniums are perennials, often treated as annuals in colder areas. Water them regularly, but allow the potting mix to become slightly dry between waterings.

It's easy to propagate geraniums by cuttings. Simply take a section about four or so inches long, remove the lower leaves and pot into either wet sand or vermiculite. Keep moist, but not wet until roots start to form.

Roses can be grown in containers, provided you match the size of the rosebush you intend to grow with the size of the container. Provide good drainage, air circulation and water regularly to prevent rose diseases and pest attacks. They do require feeding during their growing season, just as roses planted on the ground do.

The wagon bed is filled to the brim with container plants: two varieties of palms in the back, variegated ivy on the front, more geraniums in the center, and two planters with what appears to be daisies.Want more?
