Container Flower Gardening Ideas: Persian Shield, Lobelia

Little and large, dark and bright combine to make a simple and elegant container gardening flower display.

The dark purplish leaves are Persian Shield, which will grow up to about a foot tall.

In the picture, the planter is a strawberry pot-style thing, with areas above and below. The Persian Shield is at the top, and at the bottom, Lobelia emerges like a pale blue carpet.

This is actually a very pale variation of Lobelia. You can also find it in very dark blue (Crystal Palace Heirloom Seeds), or even purple, brilliant red, or multicolor.

Pale blue is probably the best match for the Persian Shield, but you can use all different Lobelia for a variety of container planting.
