Container Flower Gardening Ideas: Fountain Grass and Portulaca

This is a pretty unusual container flower garden arrangement -- it has the look of a dried flower arrangement, except that it's very much alive and kicking!

The cat-tail like things are the Fountain Grass. They come in all kind of sizes, so you'll need to ensure you don't buy too large a variety, otherwise it will overwhelm your container.

(In fact, you can dry these after the season is over, if you want to bring your Fountain Grass indoors.)

In a very cold climate with a short growing season, you may struggle to get Fountain Grass to grow. However, a warm spring and Indian summer Fall can see this flower remaining alive for months, long after other flowers have given up the ghost!

Portulaca, otherwise known as "Moss Rose", is a beautiful, delicate splash of color. Whether you pick a single shade, or go with a mixed bunch of colors, Portaluca will delight you with its soft petals and beautiful scent.

Small, yet perfectly formed, this is one of our all-time favorite flowers for container gardening arrangements. Really, really lovely.

These two plants could not be more contrasting. They look great together.
