Cactus House Plants

Cactus House Plants provide one of the best indoor garden options. Although care is very minimal, high visual rewards will still be achieved.

The homeowner who wants to start a home garden that is light on the maintenance, may decide to buy cacti. This is a great plan since they need less water than most plants and are quite hardy. Although there are still care instructions that need to be followed to increase the life and longevity of all cactus varieties.

Cactus Care

Cactus species are accustomed to the heat/dryness. For this reason, putting them in a windowsill with full sunlight is optimal.
Depending on the variety and the amount of heat it is getting, you may not have to water it for weeks at a time ( once a month is the recommended watering schedule ).
Cactus house plants like coarse soil. I would recommended using this instead of a generic mix.
When a fertilizer is needed, you should also purchase a fertilizer that is just for cactus houseplants.

When wateringcacti plants, you want to be careful not to over-water it. A good tip to prevent this from happening is to place it in a shallow dish full of water. The plant will soak up all of the water it needs through the drainage hole in a period of 1-2 hours.

After the 1-2 hour period, remove it from the water dish and return it to it's original location. Don’t worry about it again for another month unless the plant is starting to get a shriveled look.

Moving/Transplanting A Small Or Large Cactus

Transplanting cactus into CONTAINERS at any time of the year can be done. Use ice or barbecue tongs, or several folds of newspaper to hold it while transplanting. This will protect both your hands and the plant when moving it.

Use , and wait one week after transplanting to water. You don't need to apply any special transplanting solutions (such as B-1) to cacti- they don't shock like foliage plants do. If transplanting June thru August , give the plant only 1/2 day's sun the first month.

If you do get a needle in your finger, a piece of strong tape is a great way to remove it.
